Essay 3

About interview.

Topic about belief

I interviewed a professor in han yang university. I do not remember his name but he was a physicist. I interviewed him for the science project. The topic was about how the earth and human exist.(the origin of nature.)  I think this problem is about belief.

Professor believed evolution theory. Which tells us about monkey is humans ancestor. He told me some idea’s that can prove the evolution. “small kind of evolution is continuing in present.”

“ the fossils such as archaeopteryx comes out.” “about the big bang” Etc.

Even though I was learned by Christian worldview ;which is a biblical view. I couldn’t say any word to him. I was confusing. I thought that maybe he can be right. I learned from that interview that human lives by belief it doesn’t matter if is scientific or logical. Human believes what they want to believe.

I couldn’t find out what is actual right thing. Nobody can know that. But I believe in Jesus. so I believe what bible says. Bible is the actual right thing to me.

Essay 3: Interview with Saemmul High School's media study teacher

How much do we really know about the media?

< Police said… Mr. Park was found that he played blade quarreling game “Blaeblue” in last night before the crime occurred. “It seems like he went outside with the knife picked up I the kitchen in purpose of killing someone he first meet in the street.” Said police officer.

Jamwondong hate crime suspect convicted… Game addicted America elite university dropout, Korean Economy, 10/12/17, http://www.hankyung.com/news/app/newsview.php?aid=2010121764347&intype=1

We still do encounter with such horrible articles recently. The game addicted parents who made their young baby starve to death, people who made someone suicide by vicious replies while misusing anonymity, and so on. On the other hand, we find people who are uploading their private life without the concept of time like an exhibitionist although they weren't publicized much. We call people someone who use TV and Internet without control Media Addicted However, I was called into question What if ourselves are addicted to the media but not just being recognized? Are we really free from the media?

In fact, the term Media we have been using is a common usage of the Mass Media by the public as a narrow aspect of its original meaning.

A word ‘Media’ is originated from Latin Medium’. It has a meaning in the middle of. While Medias essential meaning is a way of communication, it also means something that modifies or varies the society on the other hand.

, said media teacher Park Myung Ho.

So then, why do we understand media so narrow? Formal media education was remaining at the stage of criticizing and decoding. Because it was the most urgent business to keep ourselves from rapidly wide spread TVs sexuality and violence.

From about 40 years ago, kind of protectionism perspective that was led by Catholic was the start of our nations media education. This affected on the church, and media as a disturbance against the Gods Word became dominant as a result. “

After 10~20years later, a new point of view was introduced that the consumer is not just affecting by the media one-sidedly, but having relationship with it very actively. This change of concept made consumers to analyze media critically and to produce it by their own, rather than just left behind the media by either neglecting it or refusing it.

Back to the main argument, the question is still not answered. Are we free from the media? Actually, we are not. The reason for this answer is that the media has a bias if self; rather than being neutral, and its not just a tool; Its also an environment. People who extended this kind of horizon of recognition are scholars like Marshall McLuhan or Neil Postman.

Media has the bias as itself. This means that media leads humans life into certain way. It is the gateway of perceiving and experiencing world as the environment. There are a myriad of examples but some of them is like these ones. Internet both allowed people to obtain significant amount of information in sudden moment, and two-way communication available. For such traits, Internet plays a vital role in dissemination of democracy. the government of Ally in Tunisia, Mubarak in Egypt and etc are collapsed by the Internets power. Smart phone handled a computer in our hands, even though they created the starvation of daily communication by increasing the rate of re-mediated communication. Pressing media influenced numerous alteration in the society such as reinforcing a linear ·cause and fact·logical thinking and spreading the Bible in everyones hand. TV opened the generation of show-business making public prefer sensual·amusing contents instead of thoughtful·solemn contents.

The advent of new technology and media make a significant breakthrough in human society. It presents a brand new way of life, while regulating and affecting on our lives quietly. Thus, we are asked for two figures. First, we should be able to criticize and analyze the medias contents. Second, We should be able to do humanistic insight analyzing media itselfs bias and environmental character. I will conclude this essay with teacher Park Myung Hos claim.

Media education is divided to bipolar position. One is de-media, which is an escape from the media; the opposite side is learning how to manage with new media. Both are important and certainly needed, but the most consequential thing is having a perspective that allows you to stare at the media strange. We must keep throw the question such as:Does not an image media degrades humanity?, What kind of idea is this book is assuming silent?, not just experiencing book or movie without thinking. Someone who is well trained to this extent became healthy user of the media compared to the slave of it. This is the goal that we should head to.

Essay 3 by Lizzie

Interview with Eden Teacher

She is our only Korean/Korean Literature teacher at SMHS, best known for her unique style of teaching and eyeliner (?). She goes by the nickname 'Eden', which means 'no matter, whether' in Korean, and 'gentle, kindhearted' in pure Korean words. She had been at a public school for two years before she came to our school. Despite only being in her second year at SMHS, she is already one of our most popular teachers. "Hello, my name is Joo Suk Hyun, and I teach Korean Literature to 10th, 11th grade students,' she introduced herself.

Eden teacher had dreamed of becoming a teacher for as long as she could remember. "I liked the idea of sharing things that I had, in my own words," she said. "I wanted to make an influence." The key factor to her vision was her 5th grade teacher. "My 5th grade teacher always read over our diaries and commented on them with a red marker," she said. "I thought it was really neat."

She talked about the times when she felt happy or sad as a teacher. "Teaching always makes me happy," she said. "Sometimes I go to class sick and walk out feeling much better." There are bad times though. "It hurts to think about whether I am standing properly before you guys or not," she added, "But what even hurts me more is when I have no choice but to watch students in pain. Also, there are times when I have to give them bitter medicine."

She had opinions about our country's educational system, a rather tough subject to handle. "There are many attempts seeking change," she said. "I think it is necessary to think more about education, and pointing the right way." However, Korea's educational system cares less and less about the students and the teachers themselves. Eden teacher feels more frustrated when she sees how a lot of students are having a hard time. "Do schools have to be schools? " she challenged. "I believe there has to be a hundred schools if there are a hundred students."

Lastly, we talked about Saem Mul and other public schools. "Public school students follow the national curriculum; they do what others do, go with the flow. But here at our school, we make choices that actually make our path," she said. "We are at a different starting line. Although we are more unstable, our students have a totally different attitude." She also talked about the relationships at our school. "The relationships students make are so real; so genuine. The teachers care so much about each and every one of you- it's almost impossible to be concealed."

As for how long she will be staying at our school, she has no idea. "I feel more and more intimate with the students every semester," she said. "I just love seeing face-to-face with you guys and just smiling."

Essay 3(Daniel)

I didn’t know what is my motive for action. I wanted to know what drives me today. Last 5years I was running the same pattern. I didn’t know the reason why I am studying. I’d have no interest in my life. Recently, I find a thing that makes me interest. It was about International organization. Today there are many goods. Right now, there’s nothing we don’t have.

In the world, there are people who are suffering in too much nutrient. In the other hand, too much of people are suffering at no food or no place or not enough hygiene. I was curious, today there are so many goods to desire for people satisfy. However, why there are not enough goods to supply for starving people? So, I’m going to solve my question with Ms. Han Be Ya who is working in a international organization.

To introduce Ms. Han, she is popular among young people in our country. She had give hopeless to so many students. That because She had edit many good books. She had entered in a international organization at 2001. She was the chief of her team. she is really a lover for children and fill with passion.

I was curious about like Sierra Leone and Liberia. These two country are issued with diamond, but why are they starving and dreadful at violent? Ms. Han will solve this question to me. Mis. han is really sad about this situation and was in a position for helping them.

Ms. Han explain the problem of this was caused by the diamond. It will be a very good material to sell them at expensive prize. It will improve there country, but it is using at wrong ways.

Organization that are in great position was using for it to dominate other influence. Because of this stupid idea, these groups use diamonds to buy weapons and drunks.

Hopelessness, these influence use drunks to control kids for there military power.
Because of this effect kids who are poisoning from drunk could not control there mental. They fill there desire at killing and violation.

Right now, UN is disarmament the people who are having guns or somethings. Ms. han said, there were so many kind out there, they had no hopeless or something to make them happy. She was really worried about them.

Ms. Han hopeless was giving dreams to these kids. These kinds are a been guilty. But these kids are the most injured people. She’d want to tell them there are not criminals. They just had no choose. The assailant are the adults,

After talking I wanted to know what is her internal driver. She said she want to help people. If the ground is wet people will start to clean the ground. All the mess was cause by a open pipe. No matter how, only cleaning the ground is not the answer. Turning off the tap is the answer. She want to turn off the tap. She want to communicate with the world . She don't want to be big her only dream was to help people.

Ms. Han made me a discovery, and this discovery profoundly changed my view on how I though the world worked. Right now, I want to help people and want to know more about the international organization.

John Kim: Essay 3

I have interviewed with Lar teacher, who teaches biology in our school. Out main topic was "Korean education." He explained about Korean education, its problem, and the possible solution.

Lar teacher explains how  Korean education has a Confucianism background. Which causes Korean education to exsit only to go to a good middle school in order to go to a good high school in order to go to good colledge, in order to get a good job. He does not like the fact that Korean education is totally focused on entrance examination. This makes the Korean students have to study extremelly hard and to treat one another as a competitor. Although some of the students might be able to survive the competition, there will always be a loser. Korean education makes the fell out students feel left out, and loose the passion to study. Those students often tries to comfort themselves mentally, be usually using media, playing games and such. Which usually leads to addiction.

Lar teacher also explained what saemmul school has been doing differently from usual Korean education, which is used in public schools. Lar teacher said that educating a student the way an education should be done, is a lot harder then the usual Korean education. Lar teacher also said that Saemmul's education is better then usual Korean education in two big ways. Firstly, Saemmul doesn't focus so much on grades. Secondly, Saemmul's education is based on Christianity beliefs. He saids that teaching in these two ways is very hard.

Lat teacher does not have an exact solution for Korean education. He saids Korean education's problem is very complex. However he wishes that Korean education would totaly  change, and instead of the grades, Korea should focus more on the effort.

Linda Kim: Essay 3

The other side of the NGOs

Linda Sinah Kim

NGO (Non-Government Organization) seems to be a perfect place for the work, but just like all the other things, nothing can be perfect. If there is a good news, that can be a bad news, and if there is a bad news, it can also be a good news. And it is applied just into the NGOs. There is many advantages of the NGO, but this advantages can also turn into disadvantages.
In NGO, unlike the things that’s shown, real situation is sometimes not going well. Because of the “pure” trait of the NGO, there are some things that we cannot understand. Sometimes, workers in the NGO even say they feel stuffiness of the system. Because I wanted to know more about the other part of the NGO, I had an imaginary interview with Mr.Shin who works at one NGO.
“Hello Mr. Shin, I am a high school student from Saemmul High school. Today, I want to talk about the irrationality of the NGO.” We talked about the reasons why the NGOs cannot be smooth all the time, and why they cannot say what’s right and what’s wrong.
NGOs don’t have a government, so they don’t have to care about the government. So it has an advantage that they can act just as they want, but it also has a disadvantage by this trait. They don’t have a government that takes care of the organization and keep them safe. But actually this trait also helps them to be safe sometimes.
For example, if one visits Somalia, maybe it might be even impossible to visit Somalia but any way, he/she will be gunned down by a pirate or kidnapped. But since the pirates know that the only people who can help them are the NGOs, they would rather protect the organizations.
It also become another problem. In our eyes, pirates are just villain! But helping this villain? And even being protected by villain? It might seem to be really weird to the others. Sometimes, there are even some news saying one NGO is the same side with the pirates.
Maybe some enthusiastic person might want to say the right thing to the villains. Some might not want to take care of the bad people who harassed many people. But it’s not something NGOs can do. They are the organization who cannot say there will be a terror even if they knew it before.
I was really shocked by this truth that some NGO’s keep the neutrality, so they cannot prevent the terror even if they know that the terror will happen. Actually, it is a real contradiction that the people who help the people by some terrors or wars cannot prevent it even if they know it.
Nevertheless, I still want to go into the MSF (one of the NGOs) since even if I cannot protect the war, I can still help even if it is just a small hand. If the war or terror is something that’s keep happening in the world, I want to be a small help for the ones who get hurt from it.

Essay3 : Annie Kim

All about NGO

Annie Kim

At first, I tried to interview with Anna teacher but I couldn’t. So I interviewed with a leader of NGO.

I met him at Suwon station. This NGO was collecting contributions for poor children who live in Indonesia. I asked him for my interview. He smiled, said OK and took me to the bench in front of the station.

I asked him. “What is the problem of helping people?” He said that many Korean students do service because of their spec, not by real mind. I was pricked because I go to Sammul hospice every Sunday and I play the violin for patients. But the hospice is too far to go and I am not inclined to go there sometimes.
So I changed the subject. I asked “ This collecting contributions is pretty tricky, isn’t it?” He looked at me with a curious face. So I added. “Because the weather is too hot and there are many people who look at this activity and just pass.” Then he nodded as he understood me. But he said that when people show interest in this activity and donate their money. And he said that their little interest will became bigger and bigger. So someday everyone in the world can live happily without any problem of starvation. I thought his dream is a wild dream. Because there are so many people who die of starvation. But he looked be fixed, so I couldn’t say anything to him.
And I asked him “Yes, you can do that someday. Then, when you feel most worthwhile?”
When I asked this question to him, there was full of pleasure on his face already. He did not say anything for a moment, and then he continued his words. He said that when people show interest in NGO and donate their money for poor children, he feel really happiness.
When I tried to ask another question, he stopped me and said that there is an episode. He went to Indonesia last year with his students who work in the NGO. And they spent really meaningful time at there. When they came back to Korea, the children who live there cried. Because they didn’t want to part from them. He said that he was touched and thanked to God and the children. I could sympathize with him. When I was 9th grade, I went vision trip to Cambodia in school. And when we came to Korea, some children cried and distressed. I just nodded.

Through this interview, I felt that NGO is not the hard thing, if I have a real mind to help poor children, I can help them. So I felt positive mind that I can help poor people.

Jaehyoung Kim: Essay 3

Is your computer secured?

While bleeding-edge computer technology helps us in the way of retaining better lifestyle, the importance of the computer security was always emphasized by every computer professions. Especially in countries like South Korea, in which computers and smartphones have dominated every infrastructures and even one’s personal life, the impact of computer security is beyond description.

Just a month ago, a hacker team stating them as ‘Anonymous Korea’, which is one of the best well-known hacker team in the world, had attacked several websites of North Korea. By placing several brute-force attacks and SQL-injection attacks on the database of these websites, the administrative privileges of these websites were given to them and they succeeded to leak the data of the databases of these websites, which included the accounts information and server log. Though it was just ended as a happening, it clearly showed how a cyber-attack can be made to attack a country.

The term ‘Fire Sale’, which became famous after the movie “Live Free or Die Hard”, best describes what might happen if a security vulnerability of a system is used for an attack against a country. In common, fire sale stands for a three-stage coordinated attack on a country's transportation, telecommunications, financial, and utilities infrastructure systems. By hijacking or disabling the control of the infrastructure systems, a fire sale can result in a terrible disaster as shown in the movie. Most professions say that it is undoubtable that initiating a fire sale is at least ‘possible’.

Not just about a country’s infrastructure system, computer security is also important in one’s personal life. Minseok Cha, an anti-virus researcher of AhnLab, says that recognizing computer security only as one of the requisites of a system structure is one of the most common mistakes that people make when understanding computer security.

“You should concern more about your own security, so that you can protect your own data and keep yourself safe from malicious security attacks.”

In these days of information technology, computers had become undoubtedly essential device in our daily lives. Most people handle their works with computers so that it is considered normal to write with word processor and have a presentation with PowerPoint. Moreover, internet shopping and internet banking have been popularized already, by which almost every daily economic activities can be replaced.

Keeping one’s personal security abandoned is much more dangerous than average people might think. By acquiring one’s online identification, everything possible on internet can be imitated by somebody else, including the control of social network, emails, and even financial activities.

By experiencing few DDOSs and viruses attacks placed on government websites, broadcasting systems, and banking services, South Korea achieved great improvement in security area and security has certainly risen on the list of public concerns. However, Minseok says that people should pay more attention to their own security. “It is a tremendous improvements that everyone knows the term ‘DDOS’. But though public’s interests toward security are increasing, it is true that some people still don’t know about the impacts of security and keep their apathy toward it.”

The fact that the most used passwords in the world are ‘password’ and ‘123456’ clearly shows the carelessness of people on their security. Life in the twenty-first century stands for the life full of systems consist of computers and networks. Computer security is absolutely not an option. Instead, it’s essential and mandatory for everyone using computers. Now think of your own. Is your computer secured?
